If any of the data matches the rulesets that is used by the IDS, then it creates an alert. Depending on the severity of the alert, it can trigger the active response system (if enabled by the administrator). The "active response services" will modify the firewall rules to disallow the intruder (based on the IP). The time that the IP is blocked will depend on how long the administrator has it set for. This is used to deter the hacker. You can enable and disable groups of rules, allow specific IP addresses to be exempt from the IDS (such as DNS, mail, web, gateways, routers, etc.) so that the IDS will not block them accidentally. Auto Update system keeps your PowerElf II safe from security vulerabilities and software bugs. Security updates are automatically downloaded and installed to your server without the need to worry about applying patches or other complicated software.
